2017 Syrah

2017 Syrah
Santa Ynez Valley

Our 2017 Syrah is composed of grapes from four different blocks on three different vineyards. Joughin Vineyard, outside Los Olivos - and under the care of Winemaker Bruce McGuire - provided the hot weather part of the equation, while Sta. Rita Hills yielded the rest. Oak was also a player, as most of the wine was aged in small 60-gallon French and Hungarian barrels.

Tasting Notes
The 2017 Syrah is inky purple with aromas of blackberry, dried herbs, and white pepper. A blend of both cool climate and warmer climate grapes, this wine has a deep richness nicely cut by its acidity. Full-bodied, with rich flavors of baked blueberries and ripe plum.
Vineyard Notes
45% Joughin Vineyard Syrah; Santa Ynez AVA ; 43% Lafond Vineyard Syrah; 7% Hilltop Ranch Syrah; 5% Lafond Grenache; Sta. Rita Hills AVA
Production Notes
45 barrel lot; 18% new French & Hungarian oak; 1,128 cases produced
Winemaker Notes
Joughin Vineyard, outside of Los Olivos, is generally picked two weeks before the cooler Sta. Rita Hills components. Joughin V is jammier, but without the cool climate spice and pepper of the Sta. Rita Hills fruit. Blended together they offer a complete taste of the Santa Ynez Valley.
