2017 Riesling 5.7 RS

2017 Riesling 5.7 RS
Lafond Vineyard

Riesling was one of the first grapes to show promise of fine wine in the Santa Ynez Valley. Pierre Lafond planted the first block of Riesling in our Lafond Vineyard in 1972. We currently maintain 15 acres. Riesling is very versatile and can be produced in many styles. Winemaker Bruce McGuire makes Riesling four different ways.

The 5.7 designation on our 2017 Riesling 5.7 stands for 5.7% residual sugar, which makes this wine recognizably sweet. The amount of residual sugar varies slightly from year to year as it is balanced with the fruit's acidity.

Tasting Notes
The 2017 Riesling 5.7 is translucent gold in color, with aromas of honeysuckle, green apple and passionfruit. Honeysuckle, pear liqueur and ripe peach complete the palate. Bright acidity keeps this wine sweet and spicy.

100% Lafond Vineyard; Sta. Rita Hills AVA

100% stainless steel fermentation at cool temperatures; 242 cases produced
Winemaker Notes
This lot was picked four weeks after our standard Riesling. Healthy vines in rich soil allowed us to fully develop intense Riesling flavors. We stopped the fermentation at a low alcohol percentage and 5.7% residual sugar while retaining maximum fruit flavor.
