2018 Chenin Blanc

2018 Chenin Blanc
Curtis Vineyard

Back in the 1970s, Chenin Blanc was used as a generic term for white wine blends in the US. Most of these wines were made from low-quality, mass-volume fruit that gave "Chenin Blanc" a bad reputation. Nowadays, Chenin Blanc is known for the grape it is, and produced in high-quality vineyards throughout the world.

Winemaker Bruce McGuire sources his Chenin Blanc from the historic Curtis Vineyard in Foxen Canyon. This elevated part of the Santa Ynez Valley features loam-rich soil, warm afternoons and cool evenings: a perfect environment for this most versatile grape.

Winemaker Notes
Curtis Vineyard was planted in 1982 and is one of the few sources for Chenin Blanc in the Santa Ynez Valley. The self-rooted vines on this lot are grown at 1100 ft. elevation. The barrel-fermented portion of this wine adds texture and aromatic complexity.
