The fruit featured in this Red Blend is farmed from Joughin Vineyard, a long-time partner of Lafond Vineyards and Santa Barbara Winery. The vineyard is part of Joughin Ranch, which belonged to Andy Joughin, the beloved former vineyard manager of Lafond Vineyard/Santa Barbara Winery for 20 years. Though Andy Joughin has passed on, Lafond Vineyard proudly continues to farm and produce award-winning wine from his ranch, still owned by the Joughin family, at the eastern part of the Santa Ynez Valley. This Red Blend was created in his honor, consisting of Syrah, Primitivo, and Lagrein.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our 2019 Red Blend is composed of 51% Syrah, 39% Primitivo, and 10% Lagrein. This medium-bodied wine has aromas of dark cherry, blackberry jam and toasted oak. Concentrated plum and dark fruit flavors give way to baking spices and dried herbs. A persistent backbone of tannin and acidity adds structure, balance and a lengthy finish on the palate.
Vineyard Notes
100% Joughin Vineyard; Santa Ynez Valley AVA
Production Notes
38 barrel lot; 21% new oak; 19 months in barrel
Winemaker Notes
When Andy Joughin asked me what to plant in his vineyard in 1997, he asked for something red, big and unique. The Syrah was a safe pick but the Primitivo and Lagrein were new to Santa Barbara County. This is the first year of producing a Joughin Vineyard red and there will be more. The sum is greater than the parts.
